Artist
Statment
My
work is made
by distilling
and decanting
ingredients
from my habitat.
My paintings
are radiant
energy captured
on canvas.
I try to contain
my vision,
which is formed
by my conscious
and unconscious
analysis of
the world
in which I
live. I have
four guiding
principles
for the visual
creation of
my paintings.
Those principals
are: unexpected
composition,
skillfully
and cleverly
crafted forms,
richness in
color, and
unique layering
effects. According
to these principals,
I manipulate
dimension,
form, and
color. Lately
I have started
using East
Asian traditional
art elements
such as stylized
natural forms,
Buddhist iconography,
haiku poems
and Chinese
Buddhist mantras.
This is part
of a search
for connection
with my Japanese
heritage.
I paint what
I know and
observe. By
presenting
my vision
to the world,
I hope to
open a dialog
with my audience.
When my audience
can relate
to my result,
and see their
own experiences
through my
piece, my
job is done.
